Über World War II Tunnels
During World War II, the British military expanded Gibraltar's tunnel network to over 30 miles, creating a vast underground city capable of housing 16,000 troops. The WWII Tunnels, accessible within the Nature Reserve, include ammunition stores, a telephone exchange, a power station, a hospital, and headquarters for General Eisenhower, who planned the Allied invasion of North Africa (Operation Torch) from within the Rock. The tunnels offer a vivid glimpse into wartime life deep inside the fortress.
