Catalan Bay is a picturesque fishing village and beach on the eastern (Mediterranean) side of the Rock, backed by colourful houses and known for its excellent seafood restaurants. It is the second largest sandy beach in Gibraltar, with fine sand and calm, clear Mediterranean waters ideal for swimming. The village has a strong cultural identity, centred around the annual September procession of Our Lady of Sorrows, when the Bishop of Gibraltar blesses the sea. The bay offers a more relaxed, local atmosphere compared to the busier beaches.
