About Cathedral of St. Mary the Crowned

The Cathedral of St. Mary the Crowned is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Gibraltar, situated on Main Street in the heart of the old town. The cathedral stands on the site of a former mosque from the Moorish period, which was consecrated as a Catholic church following the Spanish conquest in 1462. The current Gothic structure dates primarily from the 15th and 16th centuries, with subsequent renovations. The interior features a serene nave, stained-glass windows, and a courtyard that incorporates remnants of the original Moorish building.
